Roommate Terms and Acknowledgment

Last updated: 14 October 2026

These Roommate Terms and Acknowledgment ("Roommate Terms") apply to any user who uses Hyeve to find, evaluate or connect with a prospective roommate (collectively, "Roommate User," "you"). They are additional to, and part of, our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Where these Roommate Terms are silent, the Terms of Service apply.

By taking the assessment, viewing compatibility results or using any roommate feature of the Platform, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to these Roommate Terms.

1. Nature of the compatibility data

The Platform generates an assessment-based compatibility profile using an intelligence framework. This profile is:

  • not a background check, credit check or criminal record check on you or any other user;
  • not a validated predictor of how a real-world living arrangement will turn out;
  • not a clinical, diagnostic or mental health assessment;
  • not a guarantee of compatibility, friendship or conflict-free living together.

Your compatibility score, profile and any match suggestions are self-insight and conversation-starting tools only. They are not a definitive judgment of you or any other user's character, reliability or suitability as a roommate.

2. Prohibited uses

You agree that you will not:

  • use another user's compatibility profile, insight or behaviour data to discriminate against, harass, exclude or make adverse decisions about them because of disability, mental health status, age, family or marital status, pregnancy, culture, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, employment status or financial hardship, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law;
  • try to infer, guess or "diagnose" another user's protected characteristics, including mental health status, from their behaviour data, profile or assessment responses;
  • screenshot, copy, republish or share another user's compatibility profile or personal information outside the Platform without their consent;
  • use the Platform to harass, stalk, impersonate or misrepresent yourself to another user;
  • give false or misleading information in your assessment responses or profile with the aim of deceiving another user or manipulating your results.

Breaking this section may lead to suspension or termination of your account and, where appropriate, a report to the relevant authorities.

3. Your independent responsibility

  • Any decision to live with, share a room with or sign a tenancy or rental agreement with another user is made solely between you and that user and, where relevant, the landlord. Hyeve Ltd is not a party to any roommate or rental agreement you enter into and takes no responsibility for it.
  • You are responsible for using your own judgment, including meeting prospective roommates, checking information independently and taking sensible safety precautions, before entering any living arrangement. Compatibility data from the Platform should inform your decision, not replace your own checks.
  • Hyeve Ltd does not run background checks on users and does not guarantee the accuracy of any information given by other users.

4. Data handling between users

  • When you look up a roommate, you can see their name, email address and Trust ID, lifestyle details drawn from their assessment, hobbies and interests, and how compatible you are. Your own details are visible to other Hyeve account holders in the same way, as our Privacy Policy explains.
  • If you receive another user's information through the Platform, you agree to use it only to evaluate a potential roommate match, and not to keep, repurpose or share it beyond that.
  • You can ask us to stop your profile being found by other users at any time by emailing support@hyeve.net.

5. Acknowledgment

By using the Platform's roommate features, you confirm:

"I understand that compatibility data on this Platform comes from self-reported assessment answers, is for self-insight and matching purposes only, and is not a validated predictor of real-world compatibility. I will not use another user's data to discriminate, harass or make judgments based on protected characteristics. I understand that any roommate or living arrangement I enter into is my own responsibility, and I will use independent judgment and reasonable caution before doing so."

6. Safety reminder

The Platform is meant to help you find compatible roommates, but we recommend standard safety practices when meeting anyone new:

  • meet in a public place before agreeing to view or share a home;
  • check identity and anything said in conversation independently;
  • trust your instincts, and step away if something feels wrong;
  • involve a trusted friend or family member where possible.

7. No legal advice

Nothing in these Roommate Terms is legal advice about tenancy agreements, living arrangements or your rights and duties as a tenant. You are responsible for getting independent legal advice where needed, including before you sign any lease or shared-living agreement.

8. Changes to these terms

We may update these Roommate Terms from time to time. We will tell you about material changes by email or by updating the "Last updated" date above, and continued use of roommate features after the changes take effect means you accept them.
